According to recent scientific researches, the
role of a father-figure is very important to children's formative years, both
in their emotional and social development. While both parents are vital to
their children's development, the role of fathers has become increasingly
scrutinized in recent years. Social and behavioural scientists all over have
begun to track and measure the positive impact from having an involved father-figure.
The effects range from the emotional benefits a child can gain, to the impact
having a father-figure can have on a child's academic abilities and social
behaviour. The research shows that, even from birth, children who have an
involved father-figure in their lives are more likely to be emotionally secure,
be confident to explore their surroundings, and, as they grow older, have
better social connections. Multiple studies have shown that the quality of time
fathers spend with their children is intimately connected to the development of
empathy. The fact of the matter is that
a father's presence can potentially affect the positive emotional connections a
child will create throughout his entire lifetime. Exceptions are not reason to
discount the importance of a father-figure. Science is continually providing
research about the impact father-figures have on developing children and family
systems.
Happy father’s day!
