The Five (plus Five) Factor Model…

The J.M. Digman’s Big 5 is a contemporary psychology theory that incorporates five different traits for describing personality and how they are related to our well-being.

Extroversion: The more extroverted we are, the more likely we are to be happy and satisfied with our life.
Neuroticism: The lower neurotic we are, the higher our well-being tends to be.
Openness: Open people tend to be creative, liberal, curious, aesthetically minded and fantastical.
Conscientiousness: A tendency to show self-discipline, act dutifully, and aim for achievement. It concerns the way in which we control, regulate, and direct our impulses.
Agreeableness: It means to be friendly, compassionate and cooperative with others rather than antagonistic and suspicious.

Nowadays Neuroscience has added another five traits that contribute to our well-being.

Enthusiasm: This aspect of personality connects with extroversion and how we relate to others. Enthusiastic people tend to make friends easily, and they warm up quickly to others.
Low withdrawal: People who are high in this trait have an uneasy relationship with themselves. A low score in this trait avoids being easily embarrassed, easily overwhelmed, and easily discouraged and leads to a better life.
Industriousness: It is a side of conscientiousness, and it is marked by a tendency toward planning, working hard and finishing what we start, without wasting time or getting distracted in the process.
Compassion: This is an aspect of agreeableness, and it describes the sort of person who is interested in other people’s lives and problems, and who likes to do little acts of kindness for loved ones and strangers alike. Empathy is king.
Intellectual curiosity: People with intellectual curiosity are quick learners and thinkers, with rich vocabularies and the capacity to handle high volumes of information at once. Curiosity about the world around us turns out to predict our happiness within it.

Now they are ten!

We all know we are complicated and we do not have to be all of these things. However, we will probably be more satisfied with our life if we have at least, one of them.
